SEDALIA – Sacred Heart Catholic School will benefit from an anonymous donation of one million dollars to be used in tuition assistance. Bishop Shawn McKnight made the announcement Jan. 18, 2019 at a Mass at Sacred Heart Parish.

“This endowment, given to the Diocese of Jefferson City, will enable families in Sedalia to provide an education for their children which nurtures their mind, body and soul,” Bishop McKnight explained. “The parish and school families here have found that working as one body has strengthened not just their institutions, but their faith. Truly, we are better together.”

The school currently has an enrollment of approximately 340 students, Kindergarten through high school. Founded in 1907 by the Missionaries of the Precious Blood, its staff and faculty are now primarily lay professionals. “The exemplary leadership at the school is focused on success for each and every student at Sacred Heart. This generous gift will enable families in Sedalia to be able to give their children a quality education from highly dedicated professionals,” said the diocesan superintendent of schools, Sister of Charity Elizabeth Youngs.

“This is a red-letter day for our school and parish,” said Father Mark Miller, pastor and a member of the Society of the Precious Blood religious order. “We are grateful to God and to those who respond to God’s generosity in this manner. On behalf of the community, I am deeply appreciative of this gift. It will help us ensure a strong future for Sacred Heart School.”

Sacred Heart Parish and School are part of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Jefferson City, which includes 38 counties in northeastern and central Missouri and is led by Bishop McKnight.
